Compare CMA and Private Lessons

At CMA we believe the strong foundation in music a child receives and the experiences they have in our classes set them up for success in private lessons as they reach an age more appropriate for private instruction.

Private Lessons for Younger Children

Age

Age

CMA classes are taught in a group setting and involve age-appropriate activities that capture and hold a young child’s attention.

Age

Age

Most private teachers don’t teach young children. It can be difficult to maintain their attention for 30 minutes.

Focus

Focus

Offers a multi-dimensional music education. In addition to piano, the holistic approach includes singing, harmony, rhythm, ensemble, guitar, recorder, ear-training, theory and composition.

Focus

Focus

One-dimensional training: focusing solely on piano.

Setting

Setting

Research shows that young children learn more effectively in a group setting. CMA classes provide an exciting, fun, positive and affirming environment. Classes are 55-60 minutes, allowing more time to cover more material. Additionally, our tuition for a one-hour class is often less than the cost of a ½ hour private lesson.

Setting

Setting

One-on-one instruction, and normally 30 minute sessions.

Parents

Parents

Parents are an integral part of the classroom- participating in the activities and helping the children learn more effectively. As a result of their involvement they enjoy a unique bonding time with their child each week-we call it a "musical date"! Parents also get to experience the joy of learning music alongside their child.

Parents seldom attend with student.

As a private teacher I soon discovered that my young, beginning students at CMA learned more, had more fun, and were more confident than my beginning private students who had been taking lessons for the same amount of time. Every young child needs to begin their music journey at CMA.
