FAQs

At what age can I begin a child in CMA?
We start children in our Pre-Junior course as early as 3 years old. However, all our courses are for beginners. Please contact your local studio for course offerings.
Do parents attend class with the child?
Yes! We are a parent-participation program and parents are essential to the CMA experience. Mom or Dad may accompany the child, and we often have grandparents come for the ‘musical date’ too.
When can I enroll for new classes?
New classes begin in the Fall and Mid-Winter, however you may enroll at any time during the year. If a schedule of new classes is not available at the time of your registration you will still be able to register and be placed in a class when the schedule becomes available.
What is the cost of tuition?

A one-time registration fee is paid upon registration, which includes a CMA t-shirt, book bag, music books and all other necessary materials and handouts. Course tuition varies by region and our one-hour lessons typically are equal to or less than the cost a half-hour private lesson. Please contact your local studio for current tuition and fees.

How long are classes?
Pre-Junior classes are 45 minutes. Junior, Intermediate, Senior and Master classes run 55-60 minutes in length.
What class times are available?
Classes may be offered Monday-Saturday at various times: morning, afternoon, early evening. Please contact your local studio for current availability.
When do classes meet?
Classes run with the traditional school year (August-May). School breaks (winter/spring) and national holidays are observed. Please contact your local studio for more information.
How much at-home practice is expected?
At the beginning of a course a few minutes of practice each day is expected; 10 minutes a day during the graduation year.
Do we need a piano at home to practice?
A piano or an electric keyboard will be needed for your child to practice their homefun. A typical piano has 88 keys, and an electric keyboard should have at least 4 octaves. If you are purchasing a keyboard-talk to your teacher-they may have some advice on brands and stores.
Do I have to sign a contract?
No, we do not require a contract, however you may be charged a discontinuation fee. If you need to discontinue your enrollment in CMA please contact your studio regarding their enrollment and discontinuation policy.
My child has a learning/cognitive/physical disability. Can they participate?

Music is GREAT for the brain and many students with various challenges can successfully participate in Children’s Music Academy. Please contact your local studio to discuss your child’s specific needs.

My child has food allergies, will they be able to participate?
Of course! Please contact your local studio to discuss your child’s specific needs.
What if I miss a class?
It is CMA policy to offer a makeup lesson for a child who misses class due to illness (based on teacher/student schedule availability). If class is missed due to other reasons, please contact your teacher to receive the homefun.
May I bring a sibling to class?
Siblings are not advisable (in the studio or classroom) in that they tend to be a distraction. Many families swap with other CMA families or use a neighborhood co-op for sibling care. If there is ever an emergency situation where a sibling needs to attend class please contact your teacher.
